Glossary

Medical Terms:

Biopsy – a medical test involving sampling of cells or tissue for examination

Colposcope – microscope for viewing the cervix and vagina

Curette – a tool like a small scoop or spoon for collecting tissue

Gynecologist – doctor specialized in the health of the female reproductive system

Human Papillomavirus Virus– a particular group of sexually transmittable viruses, some of which cause cervical cancer

Metastatic – cancer that is actively spreading through the bodyPapanicolau (Pap) Test – screening test used to detect potentially pre-cancerous or cancerous cells in the cervical area

Sterile – unable to conceive a baby

Insurance terms:

ACA Marketplace – the Affordable Care Act allowed for Marketplace Exchanges to be set up to ease the process of signing up for insurance

Eligibility – being able to qualify for something, such as government health insurance

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – the US government agency responsible for taxes

Subsidized – supported financially, can be support in the form of government aid
